Event in São Paulo highlights sustainability as a competitiveness factor in trade relations between Brazil and the European Union
The France-Brazil Chamber of Commerce promoted, on September 10, 2026, at Unibes Cultural, in São Paulo, the Conexão Eurocâmaras ESG 2026 event. Its central theme was turning the sustainability agenda into competitiveness and business opportunities between Brazil and Europe. The event brought together public and private sector representatives, including the president of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), Laudemir Müller, and the European Union Ambassador to Brazil, Francisco André, to discuss the practical impacts of environmental and social requirements on bilateral trade.
Müller argued that the ESG agenda is directly linked to the ability of Brazilian companies to differentiate themselves in the international market, citing as an emblematic example the work of Amazonian extractivist cooperatives exporting Brazil nuts, an initiative that, according to him, combines economic development, social inclusion, and environmental preservation. Ambassador Francisco André reinforced this perspective by stating that the economic agenda can no longer be addressed separately from the environmental and social agenda, further advocating that supply chains between the two blocs advance toward greater transparency and resilience. Both framed this movement within a broader context of stability and mutual trust, backed by the recent performance of the Brazilian trade balance, which recorded a surplus of $7.4 billion in August, an increase of nearly 24% compared to the same month of the previous year.
