Brazilian Ambassador advocates for deepening trade between Brazil and Cyprus

The recent activation of the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur has been generating a new phase in bilateral relations between Brazil and the Republic of Cyprus. The Mediterranean nation is consolidating itself as a strategic gateway for South American companies seeking to penetrate the large consumer bases of Europe and the Middle East, states Ana Maria Bierrenbach, the Brazilian Ambassador to the country.

Institutions from both countries are already transitioning from preliminary dialogue to the creation of practical cooperation mechanisms. Recently, Cypriot investment promotion authorities formalized partnerships with Brazilian state entities, including representatives from Minas Gerais, Paraná, and Goiás. The target sectors of these joint initiatives encompass defense, aerospace technology, agribusiness, maritime logistics, and financial services.

Beyond traditional trade flows, the global transition to sustainable energy sources represents a central pillar for future collaborations. The South American country’s consolidated expertise in various renewable energy sources (such as biofuels and solar generation) aligns in a complementary manner with the demands for infrastructure development in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
