This booklet summarizes the discussions and contributions from the Business Dialogue titled “Investing in Smart Cities: Driving Sustainable Development through Digital and Energy Infrastructure.” The event took place on March 27 in Curitiba, in conjunction with the Smart City Expo Curitiba 2026. This project is part of the “EU-Brazil Investment Dialogue,” a collaboration between the Delegation of the European Union to Brazil, the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), and ApexBrasil.
The document brings together representatives from municipal governments, financial institutions, companies, and experts to focus on two main objectives: examining the landscape, trends, and challenges of the smart cities agenda in Brazil, and identifying pathways to transform urban solutions into genuinely fundable projects.
The report provides an overview of the sector, including national and international data and trends. It highlights selected projects from five cities that participated in the meeting: Curitiba, São Paulo, Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte. Additionally, it offers strategic recommendations for bilateral cooperation, including a matrix of investment opportunities categorized by short-, medium-, and long-term horizons.
As a key component of the “EU-Brazil Investment Dialogue” project, the Business Dialogues aim to unite relevant business stakeholders around potential opportunities and challenges, ultimately enhancing the investment climate in the Brazil-EU relationship.
