Exports from Mato Grosso do Sul to the European Union reach US$ 706 million and are driven by agribusiness

Exports from Mato Grosso do Sul to the European Union reached approximately US$ 706 million between May and September 2026, a level 27.3% higher than recorded in the same period of the previous year. The balance was presented on Tuesday, October 13, in Brasília, by the Minister of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services, Márcio Elias Rosa. Although significant, the state’s result fell 3.4 percentage points short of the 30.7% increase observed for the country as a whole.

Wood pulp remained at the forefront of the export agenda, with revenue of US$ 294.79 million, compared to US$ 261.56 million a year earlier, representing a 12.7% advance. The greatest proportional dynamism was seen in frozen boneless beef, whose sales rose from US$ 25.89 million to US$ 55.81 million, a variation of 115.5%, while bagasse and other solid residues from soybean oil extraction grew 90% and reached US$ 123.84 million. Among the buyers, the Netherlands took the top position by acquiring US$ 289.02 million, equivalent to 40.9% of the state’s revenue with the bloc, surpassing Italy, which dropped 3.3% to total US$ 190.43 million. Germany occupied third place, with imports of US$ 90.65 million and a growth of 113.3%.

In the national aggregate, Brazil exported US$ 44.17 billion to the European bloc between January and September, a 20% increase over the first nine months of 2025, which reinforces the importance of this market for Brazilian foreign trade. The composition of Mato Grosso do Sul’s results, however, reveals a high concentration, as five products accounted for 78.8% of the revenue, or US$ 557.19 million, and five countries represented 87.5% of the sales, equivalent to US$ 619.09 million. This timeframe coincides with the first months of the provisional application of the trade agreement with the European Union, according to the context disclosed by the federal government, and suggests that the expansion of the state’s exports will depend as much on the diversification of products and destinations as on maintaining the momentum of the wood pulp, beef, and soy derivatives supply chains.
