Portugal solidifies its position as a Brazilian gateway to the European market
Direct investment by Brazilian companies in Portugal reached €4.5 billion in the first quarter of 2026, the highest level since 2021, consolidating the European country as a growing destination in the internationalization strategies of national businesses. This movement is already reflected in concrete cases, such as Kikker, which focuses on technological solutions for supply chains and chose Portugal as the starting point for its European expansion; and Darede, operating in cloud computing, which has maintained operations in the country since 2024, serves around 50 clients, and plans to hire ten more professionals by the end of the year.
According to Renato Alves de Oliveira, Director of Expansion and Business at Bicalho Consultoria and head of the Be International initiative, Portugal offers favorable conditions both for companies seeking their first international experience and for businesses with broader growth plans, benefiting from linguistic and cultural proximity to Brazil. The specialist also highlights the role of the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan, which mobilized close to €22 billion aimed at innovation, digitalization, energy, and health. This includes €800 million allocated for the adoption of artificial intelligence by companies and another €400 million directed towards reindustrialization and advanced technologies, forming a framework of incentives capable of guiding foreign investment decisions.
