Italian pharmaceutical company expands investment in São Paulo factory and reinforces exports to the European market

The Italian pharmaceutical company Chiesi announced an investment of R$ 124 million aimed at expanding its factory in Santana de Parnaíba, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The investment, which began in 2026 with civil works, aims to increase production capacity from 15 million to 25 million units annually and enable the local manufacturing of a new generation of inhalers used in the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The technological innovation involves replacing the propellant gas currently used in these devices with a component that, according to the company, reduces the product’s carbon footprint by up to 90% without compromising its therapeutic efficacy.

The Brazilian unit, founded in 1976 as the group’s first operation outside Italy, occupies a strategic position in the company’s international production chain, as it already supplies inhalers to markets in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania. With the expansion, the portfolio manufactured in the country is expected to grow from 11 to 19 medications, and the share of production aimed abroad should reach about 31% of the total. According to the president of the Brazilian subsidiary, Marco Ruggiero, the initiative is not limited to an increase in volume, but represents the transfer of unprecedented technology to the national territory, aligned with the corporate goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire chain by 2035.
