Port of Pecém Partners with Port of Hamburg to Expand the Green Corridor

Acordo amplia cooperação entre Brasil e o país europeu na produção e transporte de energia limpa e consolida o complexo cearense como hub de energia verde

The agreement expands cooperation between Brazil and the European country in the production and transport of clean energy and consolidates the Ceará complex as a green energy hub.

The Port of Pecém and Port of Rostock signed a memorandum of understanding to expand the so-called Green Hydrogen Corridor, an initiative focused on transporting energy and low-carbon products between Brazil and Europe. The agreement complements previous partnerships established by the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex (CIPP) with the ports of Port of Rotterdam and Duisport. The cooperation has an initial duration of two years and includes joint actions for the development of logistics routes, investments, and infrastructure aimed at exporting sustainable fuels to Germany and Eastern European countries.

According to the Pecém Complex, the memorandum with Rostock extends the reach of the Green Corridor to northern Germany and to countries bordering the Baltic Sea, such as Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The initiative aims to integrate the production, transport, and consumption of clean energy between the two continents.

“It is another strategic step to consolidate Pecém as a global green energy hub, strengthening our position not only as an industrial and logistics center in Brazil’s Northeast, but also as a global leader in the energy transition,” said Max Quintino, President of the Pecém Complex. According to him, the partnership also “opens concrete opportunities for economic and social development for Ceará and for Brazil.”

André Magalhães, Commercial Director of Pecém, stated that the expansion of the Green Corridor strengthens sustainable value chains between Brazil and Europe. “This new route will connect the production, transport, and consumption of clean energy, reinforcing Pecém’s role as a global green energy hub and strengthening sustainable chains between Brazil and Europe,” he said.

Jochen Schulte, State Secretary of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Germany, highlighted the integration potential between the two ports. “Rostock is one of Germany’s future green energy ports. Together, we can ensure that the energy transition does not stop at borders, but is conceived internationally,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gernot Tesch, Chief Executive of the Port of Rostock, described the partnership as strategic and said it will allow the German port to expand its role in energy production and imports. “At the same time, we are gaining access to one of the most promising green energy locations in the world. This is an opportunity we want to actively shape,” he added.

The expansion of the Green Corridor to Germany began in December 2024, when a memorandum was signed with the ports of Rotterdam and Duisport. The agreement covers the transport of sustainable fuels such as e-methanol and green ammonia, contributing to Europe’s decarbonization goals and supporting Brazil’s energy transition.
