In an opinion piece published on October 21, 2026, on the news portal of the Group of Business Leaders (LIDE), Radu Magdin, president of LIDE Romania, argues that Romania should be the starting point for Brazilian companies wishing to expand their presence on the European continent. The argument is anchored in the provisional entry into force, since May 1st, of the commercial part of the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, which, in the author’s view, added new destinations to an internationalization circuit historically concentrated in Lisbon, Madrid, Paris, Milan, and Frankfurt.<\/p>\n
According to the text, Romania gathers approximately 19 million people and an economy estimated at around 380 billion euros, having consolidated its insertion into the continent’s industrial chains over the last two decades, especially in the automotive and technology segments. In Magdin’s assessment, this profile combines the legal predictability typical of the European single market with a growth space that is already scarce in the mature economies of the West. Positioned at the point of contact between Central Europe, the Balkan region, and the Black Sea, the country has the port of Constan\u021ba, the largest in the basin, which serves as an entry route for cargo destined for the European interior, at the same time it expands its energy generation through Black Sea gas and investments in nuclear and renewable sources. Two Brazilian companies are cited as precedents: Stefanini concentrates its main operational hub on the continent in Romania, from where it serves clients in more than ten languages, and ended 2025 with record revenues in the country; meanwhile, VTEX chose Bucharest to house its first regional base focused on the East and center of the continent, from which it drives growth in countries like Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Greece.<\/p>\n
The author identifies six fronts with greater affinity to the Brazilian offer, covering agribusiness and the food industry, technology, energy, infrastructure, industry, and health. In the field, the country is among the largest agricultural producers in the European Union, which would open space for Brazilian experience in productivity, processing, and logistics, while the high amount of European resources reserved for construction works in the coming years tends to attract investors, suppliers, and builders with a track record in large-scale projects. As an unfolding, LIDE Romania will be launched in November, in Bucharest, as the group’s first representation in Central and Eastern Europe, with the aim of organizing business missions, meetings between company presidents, and the presentation of specific projects, and, if the experience prospers, advancing later onto Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, and Sofia.<\/p>\n
